In addition to being implicated in the killings of Sidhu Moosewala and Baba Siddique, a member of the Nationalist Congress Party in Mumbai, Lawrence Bishnoi has recently come under fire for allegedly being the “hired gun whose gang executed Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada at the behest of the Indian government.” Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, made the final charge, which is as explosive as it gets.
Inside the Life of Lawrence Bishnoi in Prison
The gangster, whom his associates refer to as “Milky,” has been detained at Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail since August 28, 2023. This came after he was remanded in detention after being arrested by the Gujarat Police on August 23, 2023, in connection with a cross-border narcotics smuggling raid worth Rs 195 crore.
Public Reaction to the Lawrence Bishnoi Sabarmati Prison Link
He has stayed in the secure surroundings of the prison ever since. Since June 2024, the Mumbai Police have made multiple attempts to apprehend him, but they have only encountered legal obstacles. Section 268(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which prohibits the transfer of inmates without the consent of the state government, has been a barrier to their progress.
What sort of life does the man who is supposed to operate his notorious criminal enterprise from a prison in Sabarmati lead? According to sources, there are two parts of the Sabarmati Central Jail: the Old Jail, which holds prisoners convicted of significant crimes, and the New Jail, which is reserved for individuals convicted of less serious crimes.
Naturally, the Old Jail is home to Lawrence Bishnoi. The Chota Chakkar (Barrack No. 4) and a High Security Zone, intended for high-risk inmates like Bishnoi, are two of the seven wards in this sector. His incarceration at the Old Jail guarantees rigorous security and surveillance.
Sources claim that Bishnoi is being kept completely apart from the other prisoners. At 5 a.m., his day starts. Bishnoi, who is quite devout, spends an hour in morning prayers before beginning his workout routine. The majority of his diet is made up of fruits and vegetables. He demands to have his breakfast, lunch, tea, and dinner before nine o’clock in the evening.
According to reports, Bishnoi follows two days of silence (Maun) every week and fasted during Navratri. Extreme security is reportedly in place around Bishnoi. He is guarded by a special team of cops, and even regular jail guards are not allowed to meet him.
Bishnoi is kept isolated and the area is constantly monitored by CCTV, even though it is located in a barrack that can hold 40 to 50 prisoners. To make sure there is no security breach, over ten members of the National Intelligence Agency and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) are positioned.
Bishnoi uses a coupon system to obtain any essential supplies and is not permitted to leave his barrack. However, according to insiders, it hasn’t prevented Bishnoi from enjoying his taste for luxury, which has always been a defining characteristic of him.
According to his nephew Ramesh Bishnoi, his family still spends up to Rs 35–40 lakh annually to maintain his lifestyle, which reflects his lifelong preference for pricey apparel and shoes.Questions concerning his existence in prison start to surface when you combine that with the apparent ease with which he can connect with his gang, who are now dispersed around North India, Canada, the US, the UK, the UAE, and other countries.
Additionally, there is the minor issue of his now-famous or infamous name.
It turns out that the man who has made headlines again was not born with the name that is currently trending, even on distant shores. Additionally, 50-year-old Ramesh just revealed that Lawrence’s birth name was Balkaran Bishnoi.
Balkaran’s mother, Sunita, changed her mind while he was in school and chose to name her “exceptionally fair, nearly pinkish complexioned” son after Henry Lawrence, a British army officer and educationist. The poet may have enquired, What’s in a name? However, isn’t there a huge difference between Lawrence Bishnoi, the 31-year-old who is currently being mentioned by PMs with pinkish complexions for votes or other reasons, and Balkaran Bishnoi?

How Gujarat became the home of Lawrence Bishnoi
After the Gujarat ATS and Indian Coast Guard stopped a Pakistani boat close to Jakhau port in the Kutch district in 2022, Lawrence Bishnoi was taken to Gujarat in relation to a narcotics smuggling case.
40 kg of narcotics valued at more than Rs 194 crore were seized as a result of the operation. The ATS discovered evidence during the inquiry that connected Bishnoi to the drug trafficking organisation. Mohammad Shafi, Imran, Mohsin, Zahoor, Sohail, and Kamran were among the people the ATS had already detained. They disclosed that Abdullah, a member of the Pakistani drug gang from Balochistan, was responsible for smuggling the drugs.
A boat off the coast of Jakhau with the call sign “Jumma” was to receive the narcotics at sea. After more questioning, it was discovered that Bishnoi had placed the narcotics order, which resulted in his transfer warrant arrest. The case is presently being handled in the Kutch district’s Nalia Court.
