Narrative Return of the Dragon Rating and Review
Dragan, played by Pradeep Ranganath, dropped out of college after failing forty-eight subjects. At this point, he also gets permanently dumped by his girlfriend Keethy (Anupama Parameswaran). He obtains a higher position by using fictitious certificates as retaliation. His principal reappears just as he is ready to settle down with another girl (Kayadu Lohar) and dares him to complete his education and attend college, failing which he will expose himself and his career. The main plot of the movie is whether Dragon succeeds in life and finishes his education after being forced to return to college.

This movie was also made in Tamil by Ashwath Marimuthu, who also directed Oh My Kadavule. With a topic that is very relatable and immediately appealing to young people, the Telugu version was published with considerable fanfare. The movie makes a powerful point: there are no quick cuts in life, and you have to work hard to be where you want to be. In the final thirty minutes of the movie, this message is delivered in a very captivating way.

The character of the hero—how he cheats in life, gets a job, and marries the person he wants to marry—is well-established. The interval bang, which is handled with such ferocity, keeps you interested just when you think the first half of the movie is getting boring. Although there isn’t much fun in the movie, the humorous moments do well when they do occur.

Once more, Pradeep Ranganathan gives a strong performance. His look, tense acting, and climactic emotional responses are all outstanding. Kayadu Lohar is remarkable, and Anupama Parameswaran portrays a mature part and does well. The well-known director, Mysskin, portrays the college principal and does a fantastic job.

Strong performances are also given by the remainder of the cast. The collegiate scenes in the second part of the movie are among its greatest highlights. Effectively portrayed is the metamorphosis of a dishonest man as he undergoes trials and transforms his life.

The film’s slow pacing and long duration are among its main flaws. It takes too long for Director Ashwath to get right to the point. The hero’s deception and ascent to a higher position didn’t need to be demonstrated in such detail. This takes up a lot of time, leaving little time for the genuine emotional content to emerge completely.
There aren’t many noteworthy moments in the first half either. More nuance should have been added to the romance between Anupama Parameswaran and Pradeep. To improve its pacing, the movie has to be trimmed by roughly fifteen minutes. Furthermore, the hero’s approach to his studies in the second half is devoid of any intensely emotional scenes.
It could have been completely different with more powerful moments and a more captivating second half. Although there are many unnecessary scenes, the movie has some really good moments. A dull scene frequently follows a strong one, lessening the effect of the former.
Although the music was composed by Leon James, the tracks are not particularly noteworthy. Although there isn’t a single standout song, the background music (BGM) is excellent. The Telugu dubbing works well. The dialogue is well-written, and the picture has excellent production values. But the editing needs to be sharpened and is erratic.
Regarding the film’s director, Ashwath Marimuthu, his work is really mediocre. He tells the story of a very modern problem: how students make poor life decisions and suffer dire repercussions. However, the struggle is prolonged by needless, excessively detailed description. Additionally, there should have been a little more humour.
Overall, the topic of Return of the Dragan is good, although it is dragged pointlessly. The film’s few positive elements are overshadowed by its slow pacing and long running duration. Give the movie a try, but don’t have high expectations, if you disregard the aforementioned considerations and want to see a young drama this weekend.
