WPL 2025 Notes
By an incredible eight wickets in Vadodara, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) proved their dominance in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 when defeating Delhi Capitals (DC). In this pivotal triumph, Renuka Singh, Georgia Wareham, and skipper Smriti Mandhana all had exceptional performances that helped RCB ascend the WPL ranks.
RCB Triumphs Over DC: Masterclass Fuels WPL Domination Driven by Mandhana
The Masterclass by Mandhana and the Clinical RCB Performance
Apart from leading as the captain, Smriti Mandhana guided with an amazing 81 runs off of 47 balls. Her innings—hailed as “exceptional” by former Indian captain Mithali Raj on JioHotstar—set the tone for RCB’s triumphant chase with eleven fours and three sixes. Mithali attributed Renuka Singh’s early dismissal of Shafali Verma for setting the stage for RCB’s supremacy from the opening over. Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge’s opening combo laid a strong basis that let RCB easily attain the target of 142. Richa Ghosh’s last six confirmed the win.
RCB had equally remarkable bowling attack. Georgia Wareham and Renuka Singh Thakur were quite devastating with three wickets apiece. Renuka’s early strike against Shafali Verma was crucial to mess DC’s batting order. Renuka’s amazing stats and Wareham’s three for 25 restricted DC to a dismal 141. Wareham, who also praised Renuka’s efforts, underlined his exceptional start to the season and the team’s improved bowling discipline in relation to their last game.
WPL 2025 Highlights:
Former West Indies cricketer Stacy-Ann King praised Mandhana’s “exceptional” performance by stressing her elegant strokeplay and leadership. Head coach of the Delhi Capitals Jonathan Batty noted RCB’s outstanding bowling performance but said DC lacked the essential partnerships needed to produce a decent total. He linked their loss to the early dismissal of Shafali Verma and the lack of a significant alliance following Lanning and Jemimah’s 50-run partnership. DC started off nicely but faltered because they couldn keep their early momentum.
RCB’s victory validates their top position in the WPL 2025 points standings with two victories from two games. Having one victory and one loss, DC comes in third place Currently ranked second the Gujarat Giants have one victory and one loss. As yet neither the Mumbai Indians nor the UP Warriorz have won.
The WPL for 2025 seems to be an interesting event. Although RCB’s great start sets a high standard, many of the league’s clubs could challenge for first position. The next games should bring even more exciting cricket and fierce competition.
